It's the most important question you should ask before trusting us with your files. Here's how we think about it.
Why Trustbourne exists
Important files get lost. Crypto keys become inaccessible. Passwords die with their owners. Families spend months hunting through accounts, guessing at security questions, hiring lawyers.
Password managers don't solve this. Cloud storage doesn't solve this. Neither knows when you're gone, and neither has a plan for what comes next.
Trustbourne exists to give those files a release plan: encrypted storage, trusted contacts, regular check-ins, and careful verification before anything is shared.
Who is behind Trustbourne?
Trustbourne is built by Frank Louwers through Kiwazo CommV in Belgium. The product is intentionally small, revenue-funded, and designed around a boring but essential promise: keep the service understandable, sustainable, and ready when families need it.
Our approach
EU-first
Your data stays in Europe. No US cloud providers. GDPR compliant by design, not as an afterthought.
Privacy by design
File contents are encrypted in your browser before upload. Maximum Privacy means we cannot decrypt those contents, while operational metadata remains visible so the service can function.
No false positives
40+ day escalation timeline. Multiple channels. Contact verification. We'd rather wait than release prematurely.
Built to last
We're not chasing venture capital. No investors pushing for rapid growth, no pressure to exit or pivot. This is a sustainable business designed to run indefinitely.
Revenue-funded
We charge for the service. Revenue covers costs. Simple math that doesn't depend on raising another round.
Lean operations
Designed to run efficiently even with a small user base. No bloated team, no expensive offices, no burn rate.
EU-incorporated
Registered in Belgium under EU business regulations. Subject to EU consumer protection and business continuity requirements.
If we ever shut down
Transparency builds trust. Here's exactly what happens if Trustbourne ever stops operating:
- Where possible, 12 months notice — We'll give you as much time as we reasonably can to prepare.
- Data exports — You'll receive a complete export of your vault, encrypted.
- Contact notification — Your trusted contacts will be informed with instructions.
- Decryption tools — We'll provide tools so you can decrypt your files locally, independent of our servers.
- Refunds — Unused subscription time will be refunded.
Your data remains yours. Always.
